Archives and Records Management Apprentice

I started my apprenticeship with UARM in October last year, and every day since then has challenged me in the best way.

First day as an apprentice!
First day as an apprentice!

Through my off-the-job learning days, I am able to learn and absorb the complex knowledge required of an Archivist and Records Manager. One of the biggest benefits of an apprenticeship is being able to apply this learning straight away, helping to develop my skills in practice and build my confidence.

As an apprentice, I am building skills that will stay with me for the rest of my career. Each day, I push myself out of my comfort zone and embrace every opportunity. I am lucky to be supported by a wonderful team who recognise my potential and encourage me to get involved in exciting and meaningful projects.

So far, I’ve had the opportunity to:

• Learn new skills, like audio-visual digitisation
• Research, digitise and create a visual timeline of Port Sunlight Factory No. 3
• Support the service during a time of building works and an archive relocation
• Curate displays, interact with visitors and present to service stakeholders
• Assist with records management processes like updating the Data Retention Schedules
• Catalogue fascinating materials relating to Lever Brothers Limited

I’m proud of how much I’ve developed already and excited about what is still to come.

Only three more years to go! #NAW2026
