Carl Heinrich Theodor Knorr began selling food and spices in his Specerei-Waarengescaft general store in August 1838, posting a notice in the local newspaper which promised to "serve everyone cheaply and well". Just one month later, using his wife's dowry and a loan from the City of Heilbronn of 12,000 guilders, he opened his first factory site for the grinding and drying of chicory, a popular coffee subsitute.

The booklet tells the story of the Knorr family and the success of the Knorr brand from 1838 through to the present day.
